ABOUT

“Service-learning is an educational approach that combines learning objectives with community service in order to provide a pragmatic, progressive learning experience while meeting social needs”

Our school, Carmel Junior College, has taken up service learning to meet the social needs to provide help to the society by connecting the classroom to the community. Service learning project acts as a link between the society and our students. Its a popular saying "Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere" So the school has equipped service learning for the betterment of our students. Each service learning project consists of 4 stages:

INVESTIGATION:

Service Learning begins with the investigation of problems related to students. Here, the teachers try to identify the day-to-day problems that a child faces. It can be a health issue, or an environment concern. Investigation deals with finding out where the problem lies.

PLANNING & PREPARATION:

This step analyses the problem and chalks out a plan for the approach to its solution. Students will be assigned duties, where they would be divided into groups to look after the various aspects of the problem.

ACTION:

Student volunteers guide the other students as to the causes of the problems, its implications and finally, its solution. They give a short speech about the topic given. This enables them to have a better understanding and a clear concept about the activities to be done related to the problem.

REFLECTION & JOURNAL WRITING:

At the end, the students will jot down the major points about their accomplishments during the project. The students learn and find out the results of their activities. They would conclude as to what are the end-results of the project and how it would benefit them in the future to achieve their goals.
